Coffee Zone

Coffee Zone

“We continued to develop the site behind the kiosk, using pallets extensively to create a boardwalk and seating as well as a covered gazebo, also made from pallets.

Wildflowers, native plants and lawn were planted to create a green haven tucked away from the bustle of Colombo Street.”

Coffee Zone was one of our first projects constructed in early 2011 and it still remains today, making it our longest running garden! The site is owned by the Gin Family Trust and we share it with Ian Carter’s coffee kiosk, Coffee Zone.

We engaged with Kara Burrowes, a Landscape Architect and artist, to design a garden around the kiosk. Kara used the lego colours and blocks that decorate the kiosk as a design reference, and she worked within the existing gridded foundations still there after the buildings were demolished. Brick-filled gabion baskets with painted timber tops act as benches, and painted pallet and brick paths also feature.

We continued to develop the site behind the kiosk, using pallets extensively to create a boardwalk and seating as well as a covered gazebo, also made from pallets. Wildflowers, native plants and lawn were planted to create a green haven tucked away from the bustle of Colombo Street.
