Building has started at Phillipstown Hub

We are very excited to have started the building phase of the Gathering Space for the Phillipstown Hub! We had an enjoyable and successful community engagement phase, where we got to know the Phillipstown Hub community and got an idea of the themes that the community wanted for the space. We then engaged in a productive co-designing phase, where a Working Group of community representatives worked with our designer Jonathan Hall (and others of the GtR team) to develop a design that was best suited to the space and the wishes of the community.

That brought us into the procurement and building stage, and we could not have done this without big hearted people and generous sponsors such as Rod from Aistrope Engineers, the Pump House for the timber, Loscam Limited for the pallets Hire KING for the fencing, Briford for our trailer and Daveron for the scaffolding. And of course our funders: Christchurch City Council and Rata foundation. And a special mention: thanks to Officer Spike for outstanding services to the project! And of course the amazing Viviana from the Phillipstown Hub.

So with the fencing in place, the containers in position and the scaffolding up, we are now we getting volunteers lined up, so we can build this together with the community.

We are pumped!

Last week we took those designs to the newly established Phillipstown… Continue Reading

Co-create Spaces Workshop at Streets for People

Co-create Spaces Workshop at Streets for People

The creative juices were flowing at the Streets for People event in Christchurch on Sunday 1 October. It was great to see so many people out and the streets alive with activity. As an organisation, we are experimenting with ways in which we can co-create with people, rather than designing for people. So, as part of this event,… Continue Reading

We have been asked to help transform the Philipstown Hub into a gathering space where the community likes to be. And for the last month we have been talking… Continue Reading

Pimp-a-car for eastframe installation with Gapfiller

We have been pimping a car for an installation for a carpark in the east frame of Christchurch. This is a collaboration with our friends from Gap Filler. Jono and Jonny found this amazing car, have been doing it up and they will be filling it with native plants and trees! Nature trumps automobiles! Continue Reading

What a great working bee at the Koha Garden at 108 Stanmore road.  It was a good day to kick off Spring after a very rainy few months, and to revisit the site and community members.  To fuel the efforts of the crew, and celebrate in general, a BBQ, coffees and free soda from the… Continue Reading

Pod Oasis Competition – March 2017

POD OASIS represents Greening the Rubble’s transitional gardens that have helped revitalise the Christchurch inner city. This an organic haven is inspired by the kowhai seed pod—a symbol of regeneration. As the mall is winding up this year we wish to move the garden to a permanent location, and are hoping the PODS can continue to… Continue Reading
